Stay current as events develop in the Ashlee Simpson - SNL lipsync debacle. (My contribution in the comments)

I synced the audio from Ashlee’s CD and from the SNL performance so they can be heard at the same time: [mp3]

You might need headphones: the CD track is panned to the left speaker, and the SNL performance to the right (it starts at 3 seconds). Ashlee’s singing along through the live mic (right speaker) for the first few lines, but by 15 seconds in, they’ve faded her out and both sides are identical. In other words, she didn’t just lip-sync (which is no secret anyway,) she lip-synced to the studio track used on the CD.

Either her producers were too lazy to get a separate track with a ‘live’ feeling, or they knew the studio track was the only time they’d get her singing in key.
