Funny Feeling (Not Exactly Normal)  –  listen[mp3]

This is the last of 14 songs I wrote for FAWM, a challenge for songwriters to write an album in 28 days. (71 of us finished. That’s a lot of songs…) It’s also a Songfight title, so be sure to check out the Not Exactly Normal fight. And while you’re there, give a listen to All Onion Diet in the Oversleeping fight.

There are demos for a few of the other songs I wrote last month on my page at FAWM (including the aforementioned All Onion Diet song.) I’ll record them all eventually … First I have to let my fingers recover from 28 days of guitar playing!

UPDATE: Burr, who runs the annual FAWM project, choose this song as the leadoff track for the 2006 compilation CD, which should be on sale soon!

STORY
There’s no long involved story behind this one. It’s just a song about a guy drowning his sorrows.
PRODUCTION
I finally managed to get a decent tone from my old Yamaha guitar. I stereo-mic’d it at the 16th fret, with the mics about 30 degrees apart. I double-tracked the whole part, giving me 4 guitar tracks, call them 1A, 1B, 2A, and 2B. I panned 1A hard left, 2A hard right, and left 1B and 2B in the middle. Then I ran the whole thing through a tape saturator to warm up the low-mids, rolled off the low frequencies (below about 120Hz,) compressed lightly (2:1) and added a little room reverb. It would probably be easier to buy a new guitar.

    this is absolutly my favourite song of yours - i love it. if you make another album it should totally go on it! its really amazing!

    thank you for this awesome song.
    sometimes when things are really messed up, a song can help you through the day. “Not exactly normal” did exactly that, cause my girlfriend ended our relationship that bloody day.
